Parents Empowering Parents to help their children Evolve

Is a volunteer–run, community-based support group that started in 2003 in parents homes.  It has grown to serve dozens of families, meeting twice a month; once in Center City and once in Mt Airy.  ASP’s focus is on helping parents be both their child’s teacher and advocate, by providing speakers and resources to educate, inform and empower parents. To meet the needs of families, we utilize hands-on materials and sessions, and on-site childcare provided by volunteer students.  This also allows students to  gain real-world experience with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.   ASP families have participated in the Blue Ribbon Commission on Mental Health, The School District of Philadelphia’s Right to Education Task Force, PA “Call to Action” Autism showcase conference, and Penn State National Autism Conference.

Our Goals

To provide a support system for children with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder and their families.

To educate with under-informed, and culturally diverse, populations of Philadelphia and Montgomery County on a variety of topics including special education law, inclusion, social and community engagement, special needs trust funds, behavioral interventions. Health care coverage, treatments, therapies and research.

To advocate for Children with ASD and their families.

To increase awareness of autism and autism related issues in Philadelphia, Montgomery county, and Pennsylvania
